Transplantation Medicine

Cord Blood Program
Expectant families in the Puget Sound area have an opportunity to potentially save the lives of patients worldwide, thanks to the Cord Blood Program at the Bloodworks Northwest in Seattle. Assisted by local nurses and doctors, the Cord Blood Program collects, processes, stores and distributes blood collected from the umbilical cord for patients needing a stem cell transplant.

Peripheral Blood Stem Cell Program
The the Patient Services Department of Bloodworks Northwest has implemented a program to collect, process, cryopreserve, store, and reinfuse peripheral blood stem cells to cancer patients treated with high dose chemotherapy and/or radiation. With the advent of methods to mobilize stem cells in the peripheral blood, stem cell transplantation has become a prominent mode of therapy.
